{Nautical Baby Shower}

June 04, 2013

Now that I'm settled in with our little one and back to blogging regularly, I have so many posts that I can't wait to share...One being a snapshot of my sister's Nautical Baby Shower that my mom and I hosted for her before precious AJ arrived.

The day my sister announced that she and her husband were expecting their first baby was one of the happiest days of my life, and I just couldn't wait to meet the perfect little angel sharing my sweet sister's awesome traits! :)  I had always prayed for Tori to be able to have a baby because I knew she would be a wonderful mother, and I think she was just the cutest kid to walk the planet...I'm so grateful that prayers really are answered.

I was also over-the-moon excited that my parents were about to welcome their very first grandchild into the world.  Our entire family was overwhelmed with happiness about this little miracle, and we couldn't wait to shower Tori with love.

Soon after we found out Tori was having a boy, my parents and I immediately fell in love with this picture and the nautical theme for the baby shower.  We liked the idea of the red, white, and blue color scheme, and we found so much inspiration everywhere we turned.

Everything really fell right into place...Starting with the invitation.  We found this at Scribbles, a local shop in Columbia and tailored it to fit our "Ships Ahoy, It's a Boy" baby shower needs.
{**Please excuse the picture quality...These were taken with my iPhone.}
My mom found this buoy, and we personalized it by gluing on wooden initials from Hobby Lobby.
Mom turned her delicious deviled eggs into little sailboats by adding red and orange peppers.
The dessert table was a huge hit...I made the cake pops {I used this super simple recipe}, and the other yummy desserts were all courtesy of Ally & Eloise Bakeshop...A local bakery in Columbia, SC.  Check out their website here, and follow them on Facebook here.
We gave the mantle a nautical look by replacing the candles with starfish, adding sailboats, and painting blue and white stripes on these paper mache "AHOY" letters we bought at Hobby Lobby.
Here's another look at the dessert table...We used starfish as napkin weights, and the red and blue sailboats you see on the mantle and cake were special decorations because they were gifts to AJ from my dad.
We set up a sweet tea station and mimosa bar in the kitchen...Complete with fresh fruit and pops of color to tie in the nautical theme.
Here's another look at the bar...We used mason jars for water and tea, champagne flutes for the mimosas, and we added these straws for a bit of flair. :)

I added a little tag to the cookie bags, which served as favors for our guests.

And last but not least, the diaper cake that Mom and I made...We added ribbon and painted the embellishments that we found at Hobby Lobby and the Dollar Store, and I turned a sailboat jewelry dish from my house into our cake topper.
Hopefully this will spark some ideas for baby showers being planned in your lives, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about any of the design details. :)
xoxo,
Katherine
